Hello, Girls, let us enjoy discussing Chapter 2.

Chapter 2- The Samanas

1. How does Siddhartha act when he is with the Samanas?

  1. 1--When he is with the Samanas, he neglects outside world. He just wore loincloth and cloak. He ate a little food.He did not care about his appearance. All the happiness and beauty were not worth his passing glance.

    2--He just had one single goal-to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams ,pleasure and sorrow. It means he wanted to let the Self die. He wanted to experience pure thought.Finally, his innermost of Being is no longer Self.

  2. 3--Siddhartha practiced self-denial and meditation according to the Samana rules. He experienced the troubled course of the life cycle. He killed his senses to feel thirst or pain, and then conquer them and feel new.

    4--Although the paths took him away from Self, in the end he still found himself.

    5--I could have learned more quickly and easily in every inn in a prostitute's quarter, amongst the carriers and dice players. He felt he just experienced temporary escape. He felt he was going in the life circles.

  3. 6--Only a knowledge, Atman, which is in everyone's mind. He thinks he spent a long time and still have gone in the circles. He learned nothing from this,so the only one knowledge which he can learn is Atman.

    7--Gotama is the Buddha. He had conquered in himself the sorrows of the world. He went through many countries preaching. He did not have any possessions , no wife and wore the yellow cloak of an ascetic.
    Gotama is the wise man from the race of Sakya and he possessed great knowledge. He had attained Nirvana and never returned on the cycle.

    8--He looked into the old man's eyes and hypnotized him. The old Samana was controlled by Siddhartha. It shows Siddhartha has learned more than old Samana.

  5. 1. How does Siddhartha act when he is with the Samanas? Siddhartha gave his clothes to a poor Brahmin on the road and only retained his loincloth and colored unstitched cloak. He only ate once a day and never cooked food.
    2. What is his goal? What happens when he reaches that goal? Siddhartha had one single goal, to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams, pleasure and sorrow to let the Self die, to experience the peace of an emptied heard, to experience pure thought that was his goal. He finds enlightenment by eliminating his Self, and he successful renounces the pleasures of the world.
    3. How does Siddhartha meditation? Siddhartha practiced self-denial and meditation according to the Samana rules. Siddhartha took the heron into his soul,, he also learned many ways of losing the Self. In addition, he through the emptying of the mind of all images.
    4. What frustrates Siddhartha? He killed his senses, he killed his memory, and he slipped out of his Self in a thousand different forms.
    5. Completes the quote," I could have learned quickly easily". Explain this. Siddhartha had knowledge of the Samanas so that he has learned each exercise quickly.
    6. According Siddhartha “What can one learn." explain. Siddhartha only find a short respite in my exercises and meditation, and am as remote from wisdom, from salvation, as a child in the womb. Siddhartha begin to believe that is Atman which knowledge has no worse enemy tha the man of knowledge, than learning.
    7. Who is Gotoma? What does the author think of him? Gotama is the Buddha, the Illustrious, and the Skyamuni. He had conquered in himself the sorrows on the world and had brought to a standstill the cycle of rebirth. In addition he wandered through the country preaching, surrounded by disciples, having no possession, homeless, without a wife, wearing the yellow cloak of an ascetic, but with lofty brow, a holy man and Brahmins and princes bowed before him and came his public. The author think of him possessed great knowledge, author wish and hope hear the teachings from the lips of the Buddha
    8. What does Siddhartha do this the oldest Samana? What does the feat show? He is sixty years old and has not attained Nirvana so that he wants to leave the path of the Samanas. Siddhartha had more energy than oldest the Samanas.
