Gotama similary teacher a set of rules. His rules, like those of the Hindus and Smamas, speak of renunciation as a means of escaping suffering. He can not believe in Nirvana it means separation from life's suffering and can not reach enlightenment by rejecting the world of the Self and the world of the body.
Siddhartha choose not to join the oder of the Illustrious One: Nerther Gotama nor any other guide can teach enlightenment because wisdom must be learned through experience, and can not be communicated through world.

  2. Chapter 3, Question 2
why does Siddhartha choose not to join the order of the Illustrious One?
Siddhartha realized that one cannot learn or attain anything by listening to the teachings of anyone. One can achieve something only by doing something on his own, by thought, through meditation, through knowledge, through enlightenment; just as Illustrious One had gained. Therefore there it was pointless
to join the order of the Illustrious One.

  3. question2--I think I agree with Rosy's opinions. Siddhartha found the teachings of the Illustrious One does not contain the worthy instructions that the secret of what the Illustrious One himself experienced. This means Illustrious One reached his goals by his thought, his meditation, knowledge,so illustrious one learned nothing through teaching. This is why Siddhartha decided he is going on his way.
